Academic Enhancements for 2014-2015 school year
cfa Academy is pleased to announce the addition of three Math Centers in the Elementary School for the 2014-2015 school year. These centers will accommodate the hands on, concept and application approach to the newly purchased Saxon math curriculum for the Elementary School. Saxon Math is designed to support the long-term mastery and applications that will make a difference during testing and in students’ future education and careers.
According to the pedagogy:
Incremental Concepts are taught in small, approachable progressions.
Distributed Increments are spread throughout the year, building in complexity, so that by the end of the year students have reached deep understanding and fluency.
Cumulative Practice and assessments include concepts from the most recent lessons as well as from earlier in the year; ensuring students retain all concepts and can make connections between them.
Students will meet daily in the math centers to explore math in visual, hands on, and multi-sensory environment. cfa Academy is thrilled to be able to move forward with new techniques, tools, and manipulatives that enhance the elementary math experience.
cfa Academy is pleased to announce the addition of two Writing Centers in the Elementary School, one Writing Center in the Middle School, and one Writing Center in the High School. The Writing Centers will provide an environment designed to accommodate cfa Academy’s school wide implementation of Excellence in Writing. Excellence in Writing is a writing curriculum for grades 2-12 that combines structure and style with creative instruction and a strong, classical literature base. Structure develops thinking skills. Style develops vocabulary, syntax, and word usage and language construction. Concrete writing and editing techniques are introduced, defined, and systematically reviewed to ensure that all students excel. Wall charts and stimulating learning and writing tools enhance the learning experience.
