What a Response
Luke Chapter 1, verses 26-38, gives us a snapshot of a conversation many will glance at this Christmas season:
"...the angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.'..." Luke 1:30-32
A few verses later, look at Mary's response:
"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered, "may it be to me as you have said." Luke 1:38
What a response! A closer look at Mary unveils some amazing truths.
She submitted totally and completely to God's will -- all her desires, plans, intentions, passions, concerns and questions. Mary positioned herself to listen with a submissive, courageous spirit. Bill Hybel's book, The Power of a Whisper, has a subtitle that says, "Hear God and Have the Guts to Respond." Mary mastered that! Ya think?!
Have you positioned yourself to listen? (A quiet time of prayer or dedicated time in the Word?) I want to have the guts to respond to His voice, how about you? We must position ourselves to listen and develop a character that responds in complete obedience.
In Mary's life, we see a love for God, a faith in His Word and a willingness to obey. May this be contagious in each of our lives as we read and digest these verses together.
