"God's people should be big hearted and courteous." - Titus 3:2 (The Message)
In this day and age, this verse is a tough one to digest and master...some days! The Amplified Bible calls us to show "unqualified courtesy toward everybody." The NLT calls us to "be gentle and show true humility to everyone." Ouch!!
All of these versions paint a picture of an attitude and approach that shine virtues that lay dormant (maybe even extinct!) in today's culture. I've heard it said this way:
"Jesus demonstrated leadership with a towel and not a title."
To truly lead in our homes, in our families, in our professions, and in our culture we need to embrace and model big heartedness, courtesy, gentleness, and humility. The words of Titus 3:2 and the model of the Lord are great examples.
Paul says it this way in Philippians 2:3-4 (NCV): "Give more honor to others than to yourselves. Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others." We'll show genuine interest when we shine these genuine qualities!
Let's get at it...together!
